Sounds like something you'd hear off the Genii arc in Stargate Atlantis. That's the first thing that comes to mind. (So that's a good thing.) Pizzicato strings are a bit out of place though; they stand out too much in the mix.
Abrasive synths for where there is a factory perhaps? Or something shrill and effervescent? These are the first kinds of sounds that come to my mind when it comes to filling the gap that the pizz strings would leave. You make a good ambience here -- it's just those really niggly things that come to mind.
